Imaginary Geographies
Art, as we all know, creates new worlds within the world and establishes itself as a proposal for an alternative reality closer to the universe of desire and fantasy. French artist Luc Brevart bases his entire work on the creation of imaginary geographies, derived from the real ones, in this case, defined by the Portuguese Discoveries. However, their role is reduced to providing an escape to other domains of sight and imagination. Brevart's relationship with Portugal, cultivated through his artistic work and professional journey (he was the curator in Arras for the exhibition commemorating the 25th anniversary of CPS and collaborated with the Monstra animation festival), is revealed in this serigraphy through the parallelism established between Arras and Lisbon. Playfully playing with the map of Europe, he confronts two figures that influenced their cultural destinies: Erasmus (1466-1536) and Fernando Pessoa (1888-1935).
