Sublime Nature: A Poetic Reflection on Image
Duarte Belo's photographs of Foz Coa, son of the renowned poet Rui Belo, in the noble tradition of black and white, are associated with the 35th anniversary celebrations of the Portuguese Serigraphy Center. The artist himself establishes this connection in a poetic reflection on the image. He considers that "the rock engravings of Foz Coa are unique representations of life and time. They contain the essence of the image as the primeval form of what we now call Art. The desire to acquire what is represented, the sublimity of language that detached itself from consciousness when we become aware of the finitude of life." The image allows us to capture time, restore to it the eternity that justifies and redeems it, as suggested in this beautiful collection that evokes the sublime nature itself.
