SPECIAL EDITION CPS 30 YEARS

Artwork created on the occasion of the exhibition "1/81 - 30 Years of the Portuguese Centre for Serigraphy" at the Côa Museum, curated by Paulo Arraiano.

Matos plays with abstraction to allow us to contemplate poetically. From concrete to abstract, where is the dividing line? Matos isolates a texture and, by removing it from its context, conceives it as something independent, existing beyond what may have been considered originally. Through abstraction, he manipulates the lightness of forms and creates new boundaries, an existence within existence. - Pauline Foessel

Pedro Matos

Pedro Matos (1989) is recognized as one of the most promising names in Portuguese contemporary art. The foundation of his artistic practice is a continuous investigation into the ephemeral and decadent – ideas that the artist finds present both in the urban landscape and in nature itself, created through unconscious marks and gestures made by the human hand, as well as by natural phenomena. Through meticulous pieces, the artist has been exploring the intricate complexity of abstract textures and detailed fragments, situated on the barrier between abstraction and representation. In 2015, as part of CPS's 30th anniversary, he participated in the exhibition "1/81" at the Coa Museum, for which he created a serigraphy at the CPS Studio.
