ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Graça Pereira Coutinho, born in Lisbon in 1949, attended the sculpture course at ESBAL from 1966 to 1971. In 1971, she moved to London, where she currently resides. She completed her postgraduate degree at St. Martins School of Art in 1974 and 1977. Since the 1970s, the artist has emerged as one of the most interesting names of her generation in various artistic expressions, including painting, sculpture, photography, and installation.
Her works create a semi-abstract space through the interplay of "broken" lines, overlaid with illegible writings that resemble calligraphic effects. It is as if we are witnessing a scene where the gesture expressing writing becomes the true protagonist.
