The Magic of Printmaking
Pedro Proença (b. 1962), painter, writer, and musician, is one of the most prominent artists of his generation. In the visual arts, he has been dedicated to illustration, installation, and printmaking, as we can see in the magnificent series he presents to us today, which takes painting and its history as its theme, evoking the fantastic universe of Bosch, Brueghel, or Arcimboldo, from whom he may have inherited a certain fantastical and dreamlike realism that partially characterizes his iconography. Also reflecting these aspects are the prints we present, aquatint, etching, and drypoint, a kind of bestiary that contributes to the fascination and mystery of these images, true icons of an adult and innocent unconscious at the same time.
