The Magic of Engraving
Pedro Proença (b. 1962), painter, writer, and musician, is one of the most prominent artists of his generation. In the visual arts, he has been dedicated to illustration, installation, and engraving, as we can see in the magnificent series he presents to us today, taking painting and its history as a theme, evoking the fantastic universe of Bosch, Brueghel, or Arcimboldo, from whom he may have inherited a certain fantastic and dreamlike realism that partly characterizes his iconography. Also reflecting these aspects are the engravings we present, in aquatint, etching, and drypoint, a kind of bestiary that contributes to the fascination and mystery of these images, true icons of an adult and innocent unconscious at the same time.
