ROOTS OF THE SOUL

Sculptor Vítor Ribeiro, born in Porto in 1957 and currently residing and working in Mafra, has been establishing himself as one of the most interesting names of his generation. With international participation in various events, his work, which he began exhibiting individually in 1985, is represented in several national and international museums. Nature, with its organic and naturally plastic forms, has always been of great importance in his work, with the tree taking center stage since 2011 as the central motif of several exhibitions. In the two superb prints that we present, the tree is equally the protagonist, standing out against the dark background, showcasing the power and mastery of line and form in the nuances of black that white opens up in luminous clearings. From its branches, small suspended gardens seem to bloom, bridging the gap between earth and sky, a perfect image of the tree of life.
