AN INTELLIGENT AND SENSITIVE NATURE

Miguel Chevalier's work (born in 1959 in Mexico and living and working in Paris) was the star of the recent Marinha Grande Biennial and should be understood in the context of Bio Art, introduced for the first time in Portugal by Galeria António Prates. The artists of this contemporary avant-garde movement share a common interest in the relationship between art and science, supported by complex theories that aim to bring together the inherent knowledge of the more intuitive and emotional aspects of art with scientific data, particularly in the field of biology. They also reflect on the new forms of artificial intelligence that computers represent and their interactiveness.

In this current serigraphy, luxuriously colored organic patterns emerge, creating a nature that, although artificial, appears as intelligent as it is sensitive.

Miguel Chevalier

Born in 1959 in Mexico City, Mexico, the artist moved to Paris in 1985 where they currently live and work. Since 1978, they have been using a new visual language in which the computer takes the center stage. As a result, they are part of an international avant-garde, pioneering the field of virtual and digital art, and gradually becoming one of the leading artists in the contemporary art scene. Their work is experimental and multidisciplinary, drawing inspiration from art history and revolving around recurring themes such as nature and artifice, flows and networks, and virtual arabesque cities. In the 1980s, Miguel Chevalier explored the challenges of generative and interactive hybrid imagery. The artist has held exhibitions and installations worldwide and is represented in major contemporary art museums.
