Partnership:
João Paulo (Arganil, 1929), a discreet artist, studied sculpture at ESBAL and was a recipient of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation scholarship in painting in 1965. In 1967, he was awarded the National Painting Prize (jointly with Nadir Afonso). His resume includes dozens of exhibitions in Portugal and abroad. Noteworthy are his exhibitions at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in 1974 and at the Oriente Foundation in 2010. He has followed a path of great authenticity and genuine attention to the images of his dreamy spirit, and his love for the forms and myths that have nourished art throughout the ages. These images arise uninvited from the impulse of an unconscious that resurrects the universe of ancient tales of knights and princesses, nymphs, dragons, and tricksters, where our own experiences are ultimately reconstituted bathed in a magical enchantment.
