Born in Lisbon in 1924, this artist completed the Antonio Arroio School of Applied Arts before enrolling in the Painting Course at the Lisbon School of Fine Arts (1946 - 54). They also studied Pedagogy at the Faculty of Letters in Lisbon (1952/53). The artist attended seminars at the Gravura Cooperative, led by W. Hayter (1964) and Rossini Perez (1965), and took a Serigraphy course at Ar.Co (1974). In addition to printmaking, painting, and drawing, they also worked in ceramics, tile, stained glass, and tapestry. The artist was awarded the Order of Santiago de Espada for cultural merit. They illustrated the book "In Memoriam Memoriae" by David Mourão–Ferreira, as well as "Cinco Réis de Gente" by Aquilino Ribeiro, and special editions of "Divine Comedy," "One Thousand and One Nights," "Decameron," "Exemplary Novels," and other works, which also included their graphic designs. They were involved in the founding of the Gravura Cooperative and served on its board from 1956 to 1968. They were a member of the Technical Council of the National Society of Fine Arts from 1980 to 1984. Their work is represented in national and international institutions and private collections, including the National Museum of Contemporary Art, the Ministry of Culture, the Modern Art Center of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the Gulbenkian Cultural Center in Paris, the National Library of Paris, and the Luanda Museum. They received scholarships from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in 1960 and from 1968 to 1970 in Paris, and from 1976 to 1978 in Portugal, to create an album on printmaking techniques. In 1986, the artist published the book "Artistic Printmaking Techniques," co-authored with Maria Gabriel, published by SEC and Livros Horizontes.
