In Tchalé Figueira's prints, one of the most internationally recognized Cape Verdean artists, we can see the artist's critical and satirical gaze on society, its small dramas, and everyday pleasures. These prints depict fables of a shared disillusionment, devoid of meaning, as absurdity becomes their only expression.

Tchalé Figueira

Born in S. Vicente, Cape Verde in 1953, this artist immigrated to the Netherlands at the age of 17. After working in the Dutch merchant navy, they settled in Basel, Switzerland four years later. It was not until 1985 that they returned to Cape Verde. From 1976 to 1979, the artist attended the School of Fine Arts (Schule fur Gestaltung). They have held numerous solo and group exhibitions in Portugal, Switzerland, France, Cape Verde, and other countries.
