A Vocabulary of Plastic Signs

Belonging to the new generation of Angolan artists, Januário Jano was born in Angola in 1979. The artist, who lived and worked in London for 16 years and recently exhibited in Paris, has been basing his work on an ethnographic research of the indigenous cultures of the region of his origins and his country. This research is translated into plastic signs of great iconic power, enhanced by geometry and the vibrancy of plain and contrasting colors. The fragmentation of the composition refers to the title and theme of his first solo exhibition, which the artist explains: "It has a lot to do with memories. They are fragmented memories. Moving on to another phase of life is almost an exercise in identity."

Exercises also on the visible with the small suns and magical moons and the fires of the gaze that settle upon the forms and illuminate them.
