Art and Everyday Life - Exclusive Screenprint on Portuguese Newspaper

Luís Feito, born in Madrid in 1929, is not only one of the leading names in contemporary Spanish abstraction but also an exponent of international art. As the creator of the El Paso movement in 1957, along with other exceptional artists such as Saura or Millares, 1962 marked the appearance of red in his work as a counterpoint to black. This was one of the many dramatic tensions, with a dual plastic and symbolic polarization, that characterized the following years and continues to this day, as demonstrated in the screenprint we present today. The verticality and circularity evoke the tree, growth, and germination, as well as the eternal cycles of life and death, here associated with the ephemeral nature of everyday life depicted in the newspaper.

Luis Feito

Born in 1929 in Spain, the artist later established his residence in Paris in 1956, and subsequently in Montreal in 1981, and New York in the 1990s. As a founding member of the renowned "El Paso," he became an exponent of Spanish informalism. His works are represented in museum collections around the world. Throughout his career, he has been honored with several awards, including the 1955 Mediterranean Art Biennial in Alexandria, the 1956 Mediterranean Art Biennial in Cairo/Athens, the U.M.A M. Prize at the Paris Biennial in 1959, and the David Bright Prize at the 30th Venice Biennale in 1960. In 1993, he was appointed Commander of Arts and Letters in France, and in 1998, he received the Gold Medal of Fine Arts and was elected as an Academic at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid. In 2002, he was awarded the Grand Prize AECA at Arco'02 in Madrid. He passed away on February 7, 2021.
