URBAN ESCAPES
Mónica de Miranda, born in 1976 in Amarante, currently resides and works between Lisbon and London. She has already developed numerous public art projects and performances on an international scale, focusing on themes that reflect her interest in contemporary issues such as globalization and cultural hybridization. Through various mediums including video, photography, sound, sculpture, and installation, the artist reflects on the driving forces of today's society, particularly the current forms of interaction between the social and the cultural that give rise to new transnational borders, "new geographies" as she calls them, which also serves as the title of her itinerant exhibition initiated in London. In these serigraphs, we witness the portrayal of urban migration to the countryside, a form of escape that is emphasized by the presence of an airplane.
