Henrique Silva

Born in 1933 in Paredes (Douro), the artist obtained a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Paris VIII. From 1962 to 1965, he was a Fellow of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. During his time in Paris from 1975 to 1977, he collaborated with the video diffusion collectives "MON OEIL" and produced several videos on Ecology and Environment. In Porto, he directed the Academy of Fine Arts. He graduated from the University of Paris VIII in 1977 with a degree in Fine Arts for Teaching. He served as the general and pedagogical director of the Professional School of Social Economy from 1989/91 to 1998/2000. He has participated in seminars and international meetings in Warsaw (1983), Brussels (1986), Crete (1987), among others, on territorial and cultural development policies. He is a founding member of ANAP - National Association of Fine Artists, the José Moreira da Silva Academy, the Pedra a Pedra - Center for Stone Studies and Work, Porto, the "PROJECTO" Association - Cultural Development Center, in Vila Nova de Cerveira, the Higher Institute of Social Economics in Porto, and participated in the VÍDEO PORTO group. He was the director of the Vila Nova de Cerveira International Art Biennial from 1995 to 2007, where he directed the free studio of the I, II, III, and IV Biennial. He is the director of the Fine Arts and Multimedia course at the Gallaecia Higher School and the author of the book "Diaries - between anguish and affirmation", published by Atelier Gondar (2012). Currently, he directs the Gondar Studio - Art and Design Research Center in Vila Nova de Cerveira. His work is represented in various private collections in Europe, the United States, Canada, and Japan.
