Luís Lemos
Born in Belmonte in 1954, Luís Lemos attended drawing courses at the Louvre School in Paris. He collaborated with Cimaise Magazine, dedicated to Contemporary Art. In the 1980s, Luís Lemos held several solo exhibitions in Europe. Currently, he resides in Lisbon and Paris.
Lemos' painting, often referred to as "Bad Painting," can be situated within the postmodernism of the 80s, which brought us, among other manifestations, the German Neo-Expressionism. In his tumultuous and instinctive painting, Lemos embraces the wild gesture and brutal themes, where the subversion of Desire merges with Eroticism as a form of transgression.
While his work has been showcased in important foreign galleries, it was not until 1995 that Lisbon witnessed his retrospective at the Galveias Palace. Currently, he divides his time between Lisbon and Paris.
