Carlos Knorr: A Satire on Contemporary Society

Carlos Knorr is part of the international trend of "street art" in connection with one of the most iconic movements of the 20th century, Pop Art, both directly related to mass culture and consumer society. His latest work, a digital print titled "The Sequel of Ronald MacDonald's Son's Birth," created in 2021, merges the evocation of a well-known academic painting, Adolphe Bouguereau's "Song of the Angels" (1825-1905), with contemporary elements. The religious figures in the painting by the renowned French painter are replaced by others related to the world of Ronald McDonald, the mascot of the American fast food chain "McDonald's." Cartoon characters join this universe of references, marked by humor, fantasy, and nonsense. Another remarkable creation by the talented artist that leads us to reflect on the meaning and values of our contemporary society.

Carlos Knorr

Carlos Knorr is a pop-street artist born in 1983 who works with drawing and painting. He lived in Zambujeira do Mar until the age of 17, when he moved to Lisbon, where he completed his degree in Industrial/Graphic Design. The course exposed him to numerous artistic and graphic techniques and technologies, which, combined with his new urban experience, further stimulated his vocation for painting and the arts in general. Since then, he has had several exhibitions and collaborations, both collective and individual, showcasing pieces that captivate with their narrative, fantasy, nonsense, and humor. Carlos Knorr's painting universe is strongly influenced by pop and street culture, often blending traditional techniques and aesthetics with more contemporary languages. He even cultivates a certain kitsch language. He returned to Zambujeira do Mar in 2018, where he currently resides.
