The piece presented is part of the retrospective exhibition of her work (1987-2017): "The Solitary Pleasure of Engraving," exhibited at Galeria Quadrum in January 2018. Variations on silence, between day and night, earth and air, fire and darkness, in a metaphorical image of the shared destiny of mankind and the Cosmos.
Ana Galvão
Born in Nova Lisboa, Angola, Ana Galvão is a licensed lawyer and has a degree in Art History. She studied Metal Engraving and Woodcut with David de Almeida (Lisbon, 1982-85) at the Experimental Workshop of Quadrum Gallery, as well as Stone Engraving with H. Marçal (Lisbon, 1986) and Dacos (Lisbon, 1987) at the Atelier - Cooperativa de Gravadores Portugueses. She also explored Mixed Media processes with Calado (Lisbon, 1991). She has participated in numerous collective and solo exhibitions and has received several awards, including the 1987 Honorable Mention - Engraving "European Year of the Environment", Setúbal; 1st Prize, Viragem Gallery, Cascais; 1989 Honorable Mention, 3rd National Small Format Exhibition, Cascais; 1991 1st Prize Manuel Filipe, Viragem Gallery, Cascais; 1992 Edition Prize, 3rd National Engraving Biennial, Amadora. Special Mention from the Jury, 1st International Exhibition, Ourense, Spain; 2000 Acquisition Prize, 7th Biennial / 1st International Engraving, Amadora; and in 2001 the 1st Prize, 1st International Engraving Biennial Douro 2001, Alijó. Her work is represented in various collections, including the Museum of Small Format (Couvin, Belgium), Museum of Setúbal (Portugal), Museum of International Contemporary Graphic Art (Norway), Municipal Museum of Loures (Portugal), Centrum Miedziorytu (Lubin, Poland), Vila do Conde City Hall (Portugal), Taller Galleria Fort (Barcelona, Spain), Aljustrel City Hall (Beja, Portugal), Bureau of Art Exhibitions (Lodz, Poland), Collection of Banco Fomento Exterior (Angola), Amadora City Hall (Portugal), Ourense Museum (Spain), Majdaneck State Museum (Poland), and Alijó City Hall (Portugal).
