Júlio Saúl Dias
Born in Vila do Conde in 1902, this artist completed a degree in Engineering in 1928 and enrolled in the School of Fine Arts. In 1935, they held their first solo exhibition at the National Society of Fine Arts.
In 1932, they published a book of poetry under the pseudonym Saúl Dias. In 1937, they moved to Évora, where they lived and worked until 1972, when they returned to Vila do Conde.
In 1936, they participated in the Exhibition of Independent Modern Artists (under the pseudonym "Júlio"), alongside notable artists such as Almada Negreiros and Vieira da Silva.
In 1958, they won the first prize for drawing at the IV Autumn Salon of Estoril. In 1962, the "Poetic Works of Saúl Dias" were published. Between 1979 and 1980, retrospective exhibitions of their work were held in Vila do Conde, at the Soares dos Reis Museum and the Gulbenkian Foundation.
They passed away in their hometown in 1983 at the age of 81.
