Saskia Moro

Born in London in 1967, daughter of a Dutch mother and a Portuguese father, the artist began her studies in 1986 at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Madrid, completing her doctoral degree in 1993. She formed the collective C.H.A.P.A.S. and in 1991 participated in the 21st São Paulo International Biennial in Brazil. She was a fellow at the 'Pilar i Joan Miró Foundation' in Mallorca in 1995 and 1996, where she received training courses in graphic arts and photography. She has been awarded several prizes, including the XIV Máximo Ramos Prize (2nd prize), El Ferrol; the III Deutsche Stiftung Prize (accessit), Madrid; the X National Engraving Awards 2002 (José Luis Morales y Martín Prize), Museum of Contemporary Engraving, Marbella, Málaga; Best artist of 'Tentaciones' at Estampa 2004, 'Madrid Association of Art Critics', Madrid; L. Pinto-Coelho Prize for Young Plastic Artist 2004, Forum dos Portugueses, Madrid. There are numerous publications about her work. Since 1989, she has participated in various group exhibitions in Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Brazil, and India. In 1995, she inaugurated her first solo exhibition 'Paintings, Engravings, and Objects' at the Cervantes Institute in Lisbon. She regularly exhibits in Lisbon (such as: 1998 'Tajo/Tejo' Mãe d'Água, 2004 'Looking Beyond' CPS, 2009 'Terras de Azeite' and 2013 'Alem Mar' Valbom Gallery, 2013 'Salt and Sand' CPS). In Madrid (such as: 2001 'Tides' Estiarte Gallery, 2013 'Distance' EGAM Gallery) and Amsterdam (such as: 2008 'Landscapes of Water and Olive Oil' Clement Gallery). She has also exhibited in Barcelona, Évora (2002 'In Search of Time' Teoartis Gallery E), Caceres (2003 'Times of Silence' El Brocense Hall), Badajoz, and Cadiz.
