A MAGICAL ARK OF ALLIANCE

Fabesko (Fabienne Escolano) was born in 1970 and lives and works in Paris and Belgium. Her work encompasses painting, drawing, textile sculpture, and installation. The artist, with an international career, combines in her work a highly critical view of contemporary society and the playful and wondrous universe of fairy tales and children's fables. In the composition dedicated to Lisbon, figures of an entire family present themselves on a sort of improvised stage amidst the hustle and bustle and indifference of the city, which is the ideal partner for a journey through the small miracles of everyday life. With forms of touching and magical simplicity, the joy of flat and highly contrasting colors corresponds visually. Once again, her characters are like little lost hearts, with smiling eyes full of wise melancholy, in search of another heart that Chaos has swallowed, and which persists, like the fragments of a timeless comedy. In this poetic scene, the artist invites us to accept the challenge of recreating her small paradises, now inhabited by a charming fauna of animals that seem to come out of a modern Noah's Ark. An ark of alliance capable of preserving love and the purest and perhaps most archaic feelings of humanity, love symbolized by the innocent and childlike kiss, but also by the kind of harmony suggested among all creatures from all realms, the most evident message of this collection that currently offers us its talent and invention.

Fabesko

Fabienne Escolano, an artist born in 1970 in Nantes, France, currently lives and works in Paris. She has showcased her artwork in numerous exhibitions across various regions of France and internationally, including Chicago, Nantes, Lisbon, Geneva, and Cologne. Describing herself as a serial ludik painteur, Fabesko often recreates the world of childhood, exploring themes related to the imagination of superheroes, toys, and the simplicity of children's playful world. She combines these elements with adult reflections on society. In her works, which integrate painting, collage, assemblage, and sculpture, the "TOPEY" characters appear - a series of colorful and simplified figures created by the artist. Through these characters, Fabesko merges a magical universe with contemporary issues such as war, the plight of children, social problems, and environmental concerns. While painting remains her primary focus, Fabesko also explores three-dimensional mediums and techniques, incorporating the creation of dolls with various names such as Super Dolls, Psycotic Dolls, and Dead Dolls. This results in a sharp and critical body of work that retains the primary motives of childhood: "If life is not a fairy tale, we must invent one" (Fabesko).
