António Jorge Gonçalves

Born and residing in Lisbon on October 19, 1964, this artist has a degree in Communication Design from the School of Fine Arts in Lisbon and a master's degree in Theatre Set Design from the Slade School of Fine Art in London, where he was a recipient of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation scholarship. His work encompasses editorial illustration, visual performance, and political cartoons. He is the author of the comic book series Filipe Seems (with Nuno Artur Silva) and the graphic novels A Arte Suprema and Rei (with Rui Zink). He has served as visual director in various theater productions, including O que diz Molero and Arte (directed by António Feio) and Como fazer coisas com palavras (with Ricardo Araújo Pereira). He created the Subway Life project, drawing people sitting in subway cars in cities around the world. He wrote and directed the film/performance Lisboa quem és tu? to be projected on the walls of São Jorge Castle in Lisbon. Over the past decade, his Digital Drawing performances have taken place worldwide, collaborating with artists such as Bulllet, Kalaf, Amélia Muge, Micro Audio Waves, Gino Robair, Ellen Fullman, Mário Laginha, and Bernardo Sassetti. He teaches Performative Spaces in the Master's program in Performing Arts (FSCH, Lisbon).
