DORINDO CARVALHO - THE PERSISTENCE OF PAINTING'S MEMORY

The love for painting, evoking a well-known title by Claude Roy, not only explains and summarizes the entire journey of the great painter and already historic illustrator, Dorindo Carvalho (b.1937), but also one of the most interesting series of his paintings titled "My Masters", represented in two previous editions by the Portuguese Center for Serigraphy, featuring Picasso and Matisse. Picasso, unanimously considered the most emblematic artist of the 20th century, and Matisse, who gave line and color a leading role in painting, are now joined by another prominent name in modern art and international Surrealism, Salvador Dali. His famous painting "The Persistence of Memory" (1931) is evoked in the image of the "melting clocks", in dialogue with the abstract aspect of Dorindo Carvalho's work, himself a master of line, color, shape, and geometry, which is clearly visible in this case.
