Excerpt from the Catalog Raisonné "Les Estampes de Xavier 2001-2022", Editions Boulamiel, 2023.

Nearly twenty years after his first exhibition at the Portuguese Center for Serigraphy, accompanied by the serigraph print album "Encontro ao Luar" with poems by Gonçalo Salvado and an opening by Maria João Fernandes, Xavier returns to the CPS, to his gallery at the Belém Cultural Center, with a new show entitled: "Le Jardin Circonflexe".

Born in France and of Spanish origin, descended from a family of artists, the son of the painter Javier Vilató and the great-nephew of Picasso, Xavier has been a painter, ceramist, filmmaker, and printmaker since 1976, with his graphic work now comprising over 550 creations.

The two serigraphs and the print presented here were produced at the CPS Studio, accompanying the exhibition, and are highly representative of his poetic universe, marked by lyricism, wonder, surrealism, and the influence of great masters such as Picasso and Miró.

In a kind of theater of wonder, we witness fleeting and profound apparitions of dreams, a gallery of characters drawn from fairy tales for adults or fables for children who refuse to grow up and lose their connection to the eternal mirage of Paradise, which remains the essential source of the artist's poetry and imagination.
