Paulo Hernãni
Paulo Hernãni was born in Porto in 1962. He graduated from the Higher Course of Fine Arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto. In addition to painting, his body of work and areas of creation also include sculpture, ceramics, and illustration. He is an experimental artist who, although aesthetically consistent, does not align himself with a specific artistic discipline, which emphasizes his restless nature.
He first exhibited his works in 1984 at the Plastic Arts Exhibition at the Porto Municipal Chamber. Since then, his works have been exhibited individually, for the first time in 1985 with a painting exhibition at Cooperativa Árvore, also in Porto. Among the various exhibitions he has participated in, we also highlight his presence at Galeria S. Pedro in Amarante, Galeria Cavalcanti in Póvoa do Varzim, Galeria da Praça in Porto, 2nd Biennial of Chaves, V, VII, IX, X, and XI Biennial of Vila Nova de Cerveira, Grabados Biennial of Amadora, and Casino do Estoril.
He was awarded in 1987 with the Prize for Overall Achievement in the National Painting and Drawing Competition of the Students Association of FCUP. In 1997, he received the National Painting Prize António Joaquim and the Júlio Resende Prize. In 1999, he was awarded the National Prize Isolino Vaz – V.N. Gaia, in 2000 the Baviera National Painting Prize – Serralves Foundation, and the National Sculpture Prize – Tribute to Aureliano Lima, and in 2001 he was selected for the Exhibition of the Award Winners of the Biennial (XI) of Vila Nova de Cerveira, being awarded the Baviera Acquisition Prize of the International Art Biennial of Vila Nova de Cerveira.
His work is represented in important collections such as the Maconde collection, Finibanco, ICL, Profitêxtil, Baviera Collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Cerveira Biennial, and the Vila do Conde Municipal Chamber.
