National Illustration Prize 2022

Ana Ventura (b.1972, Lisbon), a graduate in painting and specialized in printmaking techniques, has been living in Belgium since 2015. The artist, who has been dedicated to painting, illustration, photography, and collage, has been exhibiting in Portugal and abroad since 1996. In 2022, she was awarded the National Illustration Prize for the book "Mudar" (Ed. Pato Lógico), whose illustrations were the starting point for the present works.

In fact, her perspective on everyday life goes beyond the movement and wandering through the spaces of the world, sometimes chaotic, representing the plastic expression of a gaze that connects the intimacy of interiors and the exterior, with a touch of naivety and tenderness. It is a journey through time and the memory of the paintings of the great Masters, as is the case with the work "Piquenique," inspired by Manet's famous "Déjeuner sur l'Herbe" (1863). The subtle presence of lines and the harmonious color palette characterize a poetic image of everyday life in this collection.
