"The Spiral of Writing

Alexandra Mesquita, a young artist, inherits a great tradition of Portuguese culture: the dialogue between writing and painting. This tradition, which connects thought and visuality, finds its exponent in the 20th century European artist, Ana Hatherly.

In her current work for serigraphy, Mesquita explores mazes of lines and whirlpools of symbols to recreate the traditional image of the alphabet and construct a figure that embodies the symbolic emblem of restlessness, reflecting contemporary anxieties, perplexities, and expectations. It is a spiral composed of a thousand meticulous strokes, reminding us of the connection between endings and beginnings, and the eternal journey of writing in the Western world."
