THE POETRY'S MAD SHIP

"And from then on, I immersed myself in the Poem / Of the Sea, infused with stars."

Mário Vitória (b. 1983) has a solid academic background, including a degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, and two master's degrees, one in Drawing Practices and Theories, and another in Visual Arts. The artist's discourse about his recent exhibition at the gallery of the Centro Cultural de Belém, titled "Corpus Hermeticum" of Light, is a clear reflection of the poetic irreverence on the backdrop of a personal and collective imaginary that guides his work, which in his own words "is not an anthropological, religious, philosophical, or scientific treatise, but rather a useful showcase of metaphors and allegories (...)"

In his current work titled "It was said to you, you are Gods", the chaos of emotions is joined by the disturbing kaleidoscope of forms and hybrid figures between the human, the animal, and objects, all breaking free from the constraints of the real and the visible, a great journey in the ocean of the soul and senses, populated by fantastic creatures in unusual scales, or suspended in an imaginary space that singularly evokes the atmosphere of the famous poem "Bateau Ivre" by French poet Arthur Rimbaud.
