Partnership:
Andrés Alcántara, a prominent figure in young Spanish sculpture, follows in the footsteps of the master Brancusi, the first of the moderns to establish the grammar of a new refinement, both poetic and plastic, inspired by the primitives. African sculpture, which was also a reference for Picasso, echoes the magic of its forms and rituals in Alcántara's work, in a new formulation of a post-cubist grammar enriched with the halo of an inaugural, surrealistic mystery, recognized by poets such as Cruzeiro Seixas or Mário Cesariny. The sculptor-poet not only reconnects with the lost link to the original sources of archetypes, but also gives three-dimensional form to the contents of an ancestral imagination. In 2006, the works of Alcántara, which we present today, inspired by the mythical figure of the dragon, received the award for best print at Estampa. These works were realized by the competent technicians of the CPS workshop, in three variations from metal plates engraved by the renowned artist, and are a true testament to his talent and sculptor's craft.
