The City of Harmony

The real and mythical city of Coimbra has inspired Mário Silva to create a space that is both innocent and magical, a communion between the interior and the exterior. This image portrays a harmony and seduction that are rarely achieved, appearing to us as a miraculous manifestation of a beauty that is often hidden in our everyday lives.

Mário Silva

Born in Coimbra in 1929, this artist's cultural and artistic career began in 1957. While a finalist at the Faculty of Engineering, they decided to pursue their passion for the arts instead. They also participated in the II International Art Colloquium, promoted by Professor Reys Santos, with the presence of René Huyghe. Throughout their career, this artist devoted themselves to sculpture, graphic arts, ceramics, public art, and painting. They also actively promoted art and engaged in a continuous dialogue with younger generations. Their impressive portfolio includes numerous solo and group exhibitions worldwide. They have received numerous awards, medals, and academic distinctions. Tragically, they passed away in September 2016 in the city of Coimbra.
