"Machinic Diatoms: 3 unrealities envisions a future where unicellular machines, nano machines, coexist and support the human body. These microscopic beings can enter our cells through our membranes and pores, becoming both invited and uninvited guests. They integrate themselves with the healthy organelles that are essential for our cellular maintenance and survival. Our bodies are already complex, multicellular bio electrochemical agents, consisting of interconnected systems, some of which do not rely on our DNA. Within our bodies, there exists a delicate balance between beneficial bacteria that aid in digestion and harmful bacteria that are held at bay. These intricate ecosystems maintain and fight for space within and outside our bodies. The images of these constructed micro machines depict forms that are neither human nor biological, but rather speculative entities engineered to support and enhance our natural cellular systems."
Ken Rinaldo, an American artist known for his interactive multimedia installations that blur the boundaries between organic and inorganic, has been exploring the intersection of art and biology for over three decades. His work encompasses interactive robotics, biological art, artificial life, interspecies communication, and digital imagery. In this particular artwork, Rinaldo presents a manipulated nature that blooms in new forms and colors within a virtual universe of exquisite and rare beauty.
