Joseph Beuys

Joseph Beuys was born in 1921. He is one of the most representative artists of post-war German art and one of the exponents of contemporary art, having excelled in drawing, sculpture, performance, video, and installation. His strongly unconventional art took on a strong social commitment and an experimental character in line with the Fluxus Group (1960-1970) to which he was linked. Graphic works and art multiples were fundamental to his practice. He completed over 600 prints and multiples, which included found objects and organic materials, photographic and hand-drawn prints. He worked with a variety of European and American publishers. Joseph Beuys awakened ecological consciousness in the 1980s through far-reaching actions such as 7000 EICHEIN (7000 Oaks) in Kassel in 1982. The works presented from the series "La Rinascita dell'agricultura" (The Rebirth of Agriculture), 1978, and "Difesa della natura" (Defense of Nature), 1984, were made in Italy. Passed away in 1986.
