João Prates
João Rosa Guerra Prates was born in 1961 in Vale de Açor, Ponte de Sor. He is currently the director of CPS - Portuguese Center for Serigraphy, which has allowed him to develop a path open to experimentation in the field of graphic art, particularly in the field of serigraphy. From this perspective, he showcases a contemporary language, evident in the importance he gives to digital imagery, often present in the reuse of certain figures. The symbiosis between image and poetry, which is inherent in his practice, allows him to resize new visions of select personalities - also connected to literature and the visual arts - such as Fernando Pessoa, Camões, or Picasso, among others.
Having produced various editions of serigraphy and engraving, as well as participating in collective exhibitions, his individual exhibitions stand out under the name J. Rosa Guerra: at the National Library, "of the books that are not read," in 2004, Lisbon, a selection of books created over a period of ten years, reflecting the numerous possibilities of transmitting words and images; at the Water Museum, "The Book of Pan II and Other Books," in 2007, Lisbon, investing in a wide variety of techniques and mediums, such as drawing, painting, photography, collage, engraving, serigraphy, poetry, quotations, texts, and music; at the Founder's Chapel of the Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória, "Miracle - Homage to the Panels of Nuno Gonçalves," in 2013/15, Batalha, an installation viewed by over 300,000 people; and at the Military Museum of Lisbon, "Alfarrobeira - Tribute to Infante D. Pedro (1392-1449)," in 2019, Lisbon, an exhibition curated by Luís Albuquerque and Ilídio Salteiro, as part of the Contemporary Art Evocation project.
