Artwork in tribute to Cruzeiro Seixas (1920-2020)

Three artists, Mário Vitória, Alfredo Luz, and Valter Hugo Mãe, evoke the labyrinth of images created by the surrealist master and invite us to explore it. In Mário Vitória's serigraphy, we find accumulation, absurdity, kaleidoscopic movement, fantastic creatures, and unusual scales. Alfredo Luz's serigraphy presents an idealized and poetic portrait, evoking the threshold of the night of all dreams and the key to the mystery that underlies Seixas' creation. Valter Hugo Mãe introduces Hórus, a cosmic and fabulous deity associated with the sun, moon phases, and now love, naturally in relation to Cruzeiro Seixas' aesthetics.

Valter Hugo Mãe

Valter Hugo Mãe is the stage name of the writer Valter Hugo Lemos (Henrique de Carvalho, Angola, September 25, 1971). In addition to being a writer, he is a Portuguese editor, visual artist, and singer. Valter Hugo Mãe was born in the Angolan city formerly known as Henrique de Carvalho, now Saurimo. He spent his childhood in Paços de Ferreira and in 1980 moved to Vila do Conde. He graduated in Law and completed a post-graduate degree in Modern and Contemporary Portuguese Literature. In 1999, he co-founded Quasi editions with Jorge Reis-Sá. In 2001, still at Quasi, he co-directed the magazine Apeadeiro, and in 2006 he founded the Objecto Cardíaco publishing house. In 2007, he received the José Saramago Literary Award, during which José Saramago himself described his novel "O Remorso de Baltazar Serapião" as a true "literary tsunami". In addition to writing, he has also devoted himself to drawing, with his first solo exhibition inaugurated in May 2007, in Porto, and to music, making his debut as the lead vocalist of the band O Governo in January 2008, at the Teatro do Campo Alegre in Porto.
