Manuel João Vieira

Manuel João Vieira, born on October 17, 1962, in Lisbon, is the eldest son of Portuguese painter João Rodrigues Vieira and studied at the School of Fine Arts in Lisbon. He is known for his involvement in projects such as Ena Pá 2000, Corações de Atum, and Irmãos Catita, which were born in Lisbon in 1962. This city serves as the main stage for the artist's work, which spans various areas such as painting, music, cinema, politics, and literature. Manuel João Vieira has a strong theatrical and humorous component, combined with a critical and sharp personality that addresses society and its customs or characteristics. In 1983, the Homeostético Group was founded, which aimed to address emerging artistic trends of the time while also bringing together different disciplines such as music, comics, and cinema. Manuel João Vieira was among the creators of this project, which criticized the artistic panorama and came to an end in 1986. In the realm of visual arts, there is once again a tendency towards scenic and theatrical creation, with the construction of inhospitable spaces and grotesque or fantastical environments.
