DREAMS AND FANTASIES

If Don Quixote roamed on a chessboard, a prisoner of the castle of intertwined destinies, his appearance would possibly be like this. However, the character in José Faria's prints seems to reject any relationship other than the author's musings on a fatal yet expectant solitude.

José Faria

José Faria was born in 1940 in Seixal. In 1959, he completed a course in Drawing, Engraving and Lithography at the António Arroio School. Since then, his artistic journey has been marked by a constant relationship with graphic work. In 1974, he became a founding member of the Portuguese Cooperative of Printmakers "Gravura" in Lisbon. In 1981, he was awarded the Edition Prize at the 3rd Engraving Exhibition of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. His work is primarily characterized by the drypoint technique that he uses to engrave his pieces. He has exhibited at various locations around the world including Lisbon, Málaga, Madrid, Córdoba, Marbella, Florence, Belgrade, Athens, and Rio de Janeiro.
