Born in Viseu in 1962, Pedro Tudela is a versatile artist with a diverse body of work that encompasses painting, installation, performance, music, and multimedia. He obtained a degree in Painting from the Escola Superior de Belas-Artes do Porto (ESBAP) in 1987, as a scholar of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. In 1999, he began teaching as an assistant professor at ESBAP, and in 2003, he completed a Doctorate in Art and Design at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto.
Tudela has been internationally exhibiting since 1982, constantly experimenting with his own unique approach to visual and sound art. He was the author and presenter of the radio programs “escolhe um dedo” and “atmosfera reduzida” on xfm from 1995 to 1996. During his time as a student at ESBAP from 1981 to 1987, Tudela co-founded the missionary group, organizing national and international exhibitions of painting, postal art, and performance.
In 1992, he founded the multimedia collective Mute Life Dept for the exhibition “Mute … life.” In 2003, he became one of the founders of the media label Crónica. Tudela has been represented by the Graça Brandão Gallery as a visual artist and has participated in various international art exhibitions, performances, and fairs between 1980 and 2010. Since 2011, he has been represented by Kubikgallery.
His works have been showcased in important national galleries such as Galeria Graça Brandão in Lisbon and Porto, AH Galeria de Arte Contemporânea in Viseu, Palácio de Galveis in Lisbon, Arte Trabalho Revolução in Porto, CAPC in Coimbra, Casa Municipal da Cultura, Museu da Pedra in Cantanhede, Centro de Arte de S. João da Madeira, Galeria Canvas in Porto, Galeria ZDB in Lisbon, Museu Alberto Sampaio in Guimarães, and Kubikgallery in Porto.
Tudela has released solo albums, as well as collaborations with the MLd collective and primarily with the @c collective. He has also contributed to various national and international compilations.
