Pedro Machado Costa (Lourenço Marques, 1972) is a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Porto (1996) and holds a Master’s degree from the Faculty of Architecture at the Technical University of Lisbon (2004). He also received education from the Bounkunde Technische Universiteit Delft and the Ecole d’Architecture Paris-Conflans. Since 2011, he has been a doctoral student in Contemporary Metropolitan Territory Architecture at ISCTE-IUL.
Since 1997, Pedro has been the coordinator of a.s* – atelier de santos, where he works in the field of architecture. His work has been showcased at numerous conferences and publications in the field of architecture, in countries such as Japan, South Korea, the United States, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Germany, Argentina, Chile, and France.
As an author, Pedro has participated in various international architecture exhibitions, including the Venice Architecture Biennale and the Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism. He has exhibited his work at the Institut Valenciá d’Art Modern, Hartell Gallery (Ithaca, NY), Boijmans van Beuningen Museum (Rotterdam), and the Architectural Association (London), among others. His work has been recognized with several awards, including nominations for the Mies van der Rohe Award and the Secil Award. He was a finalist for the FAD Awards and won the Arquitectura dels Sócis d’Arquinfad Award in 2007. Pedro also works in the field of architecture promotion and curating, having curated exhibitions such as L’Alatante and A Casa Portuguesa.
He regularly collaborates with architecture and urban culture magazines and books. From 2010 to 2012, Pedro served as the director of the PARQ – Department of Architecture and Landscape at the Vasco da Gama University School (Coimbra), where he also taught architectural design. He has been a guest lecturer at the ESAyT – Escuela Superior de Arquitectura y Tecnologias (Madrid) since 2010 and a project professor at the Department of Architecture at ISCTE-IUL.
