Maria Tomás

Born on the Island of Santa Maria, Azores, in 1951, this artist completed a degree in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon in 1984. They also attended a Model Drawing course at the National Society of Fine Arts and a Metal Engraving course at the Casa das Artes in Tavira. From 1997 to 1999, they were responsible for the Visual Arts studio at the Drug Rehabilitation Clinic in Galamares, and from 1995 to 2000, they were a member of the Board of Directors at the Diferença Gallery in Lisbon, where they also taught Engraving. In 2000, they received the 1st Prize for Artistic Creation. In addition to their painting, this artist’s work also encompasses the fields of printmaking, illustration, and cinema.
