Joaquim Manuel Guerreiro Baptista was born in Faro, in 1936. In 1957, he enrolled in Architecture at the School of Fine Arts in Lisbon, but later abandoned the course to fully dedicate himself to painting. In 1962, he completed the Supplementary Painting Course at the School of Fine Arts in Lisbon.
In the year 1962-63, he was awarded a scholarship in Paris by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. In 1968, he was a fellow of the Institute of High Culture in Ravenna, Italy. From 1964 to 1972, he served as an Assistant in Painting at the School of Fine Arts in Lisbon. Starting in 1977, he regularly traveled to Lippstadt and Schmallenberg in the Federal Republic of Germany, where he worked and created tapestries for the Falke Factory (Imago).
He passed away in April 2023.
