Lima de Freitas

Born in Setubal in 1927 and passed away in 1998, this artist is widely regarded as a “Total Artist” with a significant creative and humanistic journey in contemporary Portuguese culture. He was a painter, illustrator, essayist, and brilliant researcher. He was a founding member of CIRET in Paris and, starting from 1992, served in the Advisory Commission to UNESCO for interdisciplinarity. He was also a Knight of the Order of Merit in France. As an author, he wrote essays and books on topics of visual semiotics, aesthetics, and symbolism, as well as numerous writings on art. He participated in numerous exhibitions in various countries and held solo shows primarily in Lisbon, Porto, Setúbal, Paris, London, Warsaw, Aarhus, and Copenhagen. His works can be found in numerous private collections and museums in Portugal and in a dozen foreign countries.
