Jaime Silva

Born in Peso da Régua in 1947, this artist graduated from the School of Fine Arts of Porto in 1972. He was the founder of the Puzzle Group with eight other artists and became an art critic in 1975. He received a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Paris (1977 and 1978) and taught Painting at Ar.Co in Lisbon from 1983 to 1987. He is a member of the governing bodies of the National Society of Fine Arts in Lisbon and has been the responsible professor for the Painting Course at S.N.B.A. since 1987. Since 1999, he has been the Artistic Director of the Montijo Municipal Gallery and in 2006, he founded the Três Group in Lisbon. He has served as a jury member for various exhibitions, including “1984 – The future is already today?” at the Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon; D. Fernando II Prize, Sintra; and Montijo Art Biennial – Vespeira Prize. He has curated several exhibitions, such as “13 Artists/Digital Art” in Lisbon (2006) and “New Symbolisms/Performance and Limits” in Montijo (2006). He has been awarded the Medal of Merit by the Municipality of Peso da Régua. He has been exhibiting individually since 1976. In 1992, the exhibition “Ten Years of Painting 1976/86” was held at the Gonfilarte Gallery in Vila Praia de Âncora. His work is represented in collections such as the Ministry of Culture, Lisbon; the Center for Modern Art, F.C. Gulbenkian, Lisbon; Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Lisbon; Dr. Anastácio Gonçalves House Museum, Lisbon; and the Municipalities of Peso da Régua and Almada.
