Beatriz Coelho

Born in Porto in 1995, Beatriz Coelho currently resides and works in Lisbon. She earned her degree in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Lisbon in 2018.

Since 2015, Coelho has been an active participant in a variety of exhibitions. Notable showcases of her work include “I Will Take the Risk,” curated by Carolina Trigueiros and Tomaz Hipólito in Lisbon in 2019, and the Young Creator Exhibition at Nova SBE in Carcavelos, also in 2019. She has received several recognitions, such as being a finalist and one of the winners of the Young Art Prize in 2018, supported by various organizations including the Millennium BCP Foundation. She also garnered finalist status in the 2019 Young Creator Contest.

In addition to her artistic endeavors, Coelho contributes articles to various art-focused platforms and journals, including Artecapital. Her artistic journey is marked by an exploration of time, stretching beyond the canvas to include other disciplines such as tapestry, drawing, and sculpture. This exploration considers themes related to our understanding of the past, present, and future from both a thematic and procedural viewpoint.

Her work delves into the material and temporal aspects of art-making, exemplified by her special edition created in partnership with a well-known art institution. Straddling the line between figurative and abstract art, Coelho’s pieces invite viewers to ponder what lies between the visible and the invisible, suggesting a realm beyond their initial impression.

Ultimately, her works are not confined to specific narratives or closed scripts. Instead, they serve as open-ended journeys, offering viewers something to uncover within the enigma of their physical or non-physical existence, thus touching on profoundly human questions.
