Silva Palmeira is the creator of an unmistakable style that has already earned its place in contemporary Portuguese figuration. The Jerónimos, an iconic work of the Manueline style that combines Gothic and Renaissance elements, has imposed itself on the artist as one of the wonders of our architecture, symbolizing the divine inspiration for precarious human existence. The artist's representation highlights the majesty and purity of the forms under the sign of verticality accentuated by the trees in the foreground, as well as the whiteness and light. Under the effect of this transfiguring light, the stone becomes spiritualized, stylized, and approaches the blue, with the forms merging with the color that, in its magical opacity, acquires a kind of transparency, in a true ritual of shared asceticism that affirms the élan towards the divine.
