The piece presented is part of the retrospective exhibition of her work (1987-2017): "The Solitary Pleasure of Engraving," exhibited at Galeria Quadrum in January 2018. Variations on silence, between day and night, earth and air, fire and darkness, in a metaphorical image of the shared destiny of mankind and the Cosmos.

Carlos Carreiro

Born in 1946, in Ponta Delgada, Azores, the artist has had a successful career in the art world. He was a professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Porto and has received numerous awards for his work. In 1976, he formed the Puzzle Group with other talented artists. Over the years, he has participated in more than 300 collective exhibitions, both in Portugal and abroad, including renowned events such as Arco 98 in Madrid and Art Cologne 01. His unique style and imaginative creations have been showcased in various solo exhibitions in Portugal and abroad. His artwork can be found in numerous private collections and official institutions in the Azores, including the Regional Legislative Assembly. He has exhibited in prestigious galleries such as Zen, JN, 111, Módulo, EG, Bertrand, Roma e Pavia, Diagonal, and Diagonale (Paris), among others. In 1991/92, with the support of the Regional Directorate of Culture, a retrospective exhibition was organized to celebrate the artist's 25-year career. The exhibition travelled to several cities, including Angra do Heroísmo, Ponta Delgada, Horta, Lisbon, Porto, Amarante, Coimbra, Gondomar, S. João da Madeira, and Aveiro. In 2003, a small retrospective exhibition was held at the Gallery of the Municipal Center for Culture in Ponta Delgada, and his work was presented again in 2005 for an individual exhibition. The artist's painting style is distinct and recognizable, characterized by his unique blend of fantasy, humor, and social commentary. He has received several awards throughout his career, including the George Orwell Honorable Mention from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in 1984, the National Painting Prize - 2nd AIP Biennial of Art in 1996, and the Art Car BMW Baviera Prize in 1997 for his painting on a BMW, which is on display at the Baviera Museum. In 2006, he was honored by the President of the Republic with the grade of Grand Officer of the Order of Merit, in a commemorative ceremony in Angra do Heroísmo.
