Partnership:
Carlos Calvet was born in 1928 in Lisbon. He graduated in architecture from ESBAL, but that didn't stop him from dedicating himself to painting from an early age. Versatile, he also practiced engraving and even experimented with cinema. José Augusto França emphasizes the constructivism of his compartmentalized surfaces and the subdued colors that also contribute to the definition of a melancholic lyrical tone. But what really touches us in Calvet's work is the radiance of his spaces, where a long-lost freedom shines and where the energy and immensity of nature prevail over the ordered pressure of expanding forms, prefiguring the enigma of other universes.
