António Carmo has been establishing himself as one of the leading figures in contemporary lyrical art in Portugal, as defined by critic Rui Mário Gonçalves, who considers it to be a defining element of our cultural identity, alongside what is referred to as "subtle art" - the ability to question and transcend appearances. In his paintings, the cult of form is accompanied by vibrant colors that shine in contrasts of primary tones, contained but not confined by the lines, which instead give them lightness and density. In his current serigraphs, the lines, set against a darkness that accentuates their mystery, seem to capture the essence of a prodigious movement in eternal metamorphosis. It is a tribute to dance and the talent of star dancer António Casalinho, who symbolizes it in this image with the beauty and perfection of his movements.
