From the series "From Places I've Never Been".
The drawing on lithographic stone took three months for the artist to complete. Attention to detail is one of the defining characteristics of their work.
Filipe Romão (b. 1981, Lisbon) holds a degree in Fine Arts, Painting, from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, as well as a degree in sculpture from the same faculty and in photography from the Technical School of Image and Communication (ETIC). If the discovery of photography in the mid-19th century freed painting from the need for fidelity to reality, the tradition of the figurative has remained the strongest aspect of Western art until today.
This work, which is part of the series "From Places I've Never Been", is a remarkable black and white lithograph that reflects the artist's strong connection to nature and their memories, revealing a dual seduction by painting and photography in their choice of a figurative expression. In the meticulously treated landscape, the scaling of the plant forms creates perspective and reveals a horizon of ever-changing clouds, in an eloquent contrast between stability and movement that govern the rhythms of nature.
