The Magic of Printmaking
Pedro Proença (b. 1962), a painter, writer, and musician, is one of the most prominent artists of his generation. In the visual arts, he has been dedicated to illustration, installation, and printmaking, as we can see in the magnificent series he presents today, which takes painting and its history as its theme, evoking the fantastical universe of Bosch, Brueghel, or Arcimboldo, from whom he may have inherited a certain fantastical and dreamlike realism that partly characterizes his iconography. The grotesque, humor, and social satire, which are not surprising coming from one of the creators of the homeostatic movement revolutionary in the 80s, also reflect these aspects. The prints we present, aquatint, etching, and drypoint, contribute to the fascination and mystery of these images, a sort of bestiary that represents true icons of an adult and innocent unconsciousness at the same time.
