Mother Mandala, 2020

International Forest Art Path Biennale, Darmstadt, Germany

Mother Mandala celebrates the origins of humanity and our connection to nature, highlighting its healing powers. It also explores the intricate connections found in mandalas, as well as the "communication networks" that exist underground in the forest through mushrooms and roots. This permanent installation in the forest showcases donated, colored dresses that are adorned with small treasures and natural materials. Each dress segment is intricately connected to its history, previous owner, and contemporary significance. The personal stories behind the donated dresses are presented digitally on the internet, delving into cultural identity and questioning the values of today in relation to textiles. Mother Mandala symbolically honors the clothing pieces and their histories, inviting viewers on an investigative visual journey through the patterns of Darmstadt Art Deco, the Hindu Mandala, the Christian Rosette, the Maya Tzolk'in, and the Persian Shamseh.
